About Leukine
Leukine® (sargramostim) is a man-made form of granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF). GM-CSF (you may also hear this referred to as CSF) is a type of protein known as a growth factor that your body produces to help increase the number and function of white blood cells (WBCs). WBCs, which are made in your bone marrow, are responsible for fighting infections and initiating an immune response. Some cancer treatments, including chemotherapy, can kill healthy cells like WBCs in addition to killing cancer cells. This is where Leukine may provide a benefit by helping your body increase the number and function of WBCs.
