Pharmacology
Leukine® Pharmacodynamics Support Hematologic Recovery
Leukine® (sargramostim), a yeast-derived, recombinant human granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (rhu GM-CSF), is a multilineage growth factor that accelerates myeloid recovery.1 Like other CSFs, Leukine stimulates neutrophils to produce antibacterial activity. Unlike other CSFs, Leukine also stimulates monocytes/macrophages. The clinical significance of the in vitro data is unknown.
GM-CSF (Leukine) is an integral part of the development and maturation of the myeloid-derived immune system. The role of GM-CSF, and other cytokines, in hematopoiesis is depicted graphically on the attached hematopoiteic cascade.
